MAGNETIC LEVITATION

What is magnetic levitation?

The motion of a body in a magnetic field, with out touching the earth. That is, the body will float in the magnetic field.

Where it is used?

Chinese and  Japanese are using this method for their bullet trains. Where as French and other countries in the northern hemisphere using it in war ship.

How they are using this method?

This method using the  principle of the linear induction method. We all know about the induction motor. Then what is linear induction motor. The question arises like this.

Linear Induction Motor:

It principle is same as the induction motor. But the difference is the stator will not be in cylinder form. It is linearly arranged. The rotor will also moves in linear form. The construction of the rotor is in such a manner, that the rotor tends to move in the forward direction. This entirely depends on the type of winding used.

Bullet trains construction:

The stator will be in the train and rotor is the pathway the train moving. When the current supplied in the motor initial thrust will be given by the engine in the train. When the train starts to move, the stator in the train will starts to work.

Working of the linear induction motor:

The alternating change of the poles in the stator, pulls the rotor linearly. But here in the bullet trains the rotor doesn't moves. so the thrust/torque will remains in the stator and tends to move in linear direction.

Where it is used in our marine field?

It is used in the navy ships ie war ships. For easy launching of the war planes. so that i will be easy to take off. But landing is done i dfferent ways. This type of levitation is used in cold cuntries such as Russia, France. But this is also going to be one of the method in indian war vessels.....
